Kyushu Railway Company (9142) cut its net profit forecast for the year ending March 2027 by 8.9% to ¥47.0 billion from ¥51.6 billion, citing damage from the July 28, 2026 Kumamoto earthquake, while keeping its revenue, operating profit and ordinary profit forecasts unchanged.

The company said service suspensions and reduced timetables on the Kyushu Shinkansen and conventional lines will cut railway passenger revenue by about ¥6.7 billion this fiscal year, with bus replacement services costing about ¥400 million. It expects to book an extraordinary loss of about ¥9.0 billion for damage to railway facilities, including Shinkansen viaducts, rails, bridges and platforms.

JR Kyushu is negotiating restoration plans and cost-sharing with the Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency, which owns the Shinkansen facilities other than rolling stock, and said damage estimates may be revised.
