Belc cuts full-year net profit forecast to ¥9.9 billion; H1 net falls 25.4%

Supermarket operator Belc Co. (9974) on Oct. 9 cut its consolidated net profit forecast for the fiscal year ending February 2027 to ¥9.9 billion from a previous range of ¥12.5 billion to ¥13.6 billion.

FY net profit forecast¥9.9 billion (prev. ¥12.5-13.6 billion)
FY operating profit forecast¥15.4 billion (prev. ¥18.0-19.8 billion)
H1 net profit¥4.58 billion (down 25.4%)
FY dividend forecast¥132 per share

Belc had issued its April 10 forecast as a range, citing uncertainty over the Middle East. It now projects operating revenue of ¥443.0 billion, against a previous range of ¥434.5 billion to ¥454.6 billion, and operating profit of ¥15.4 billion, down from ¥18.0 billion to ¥19.8 billion. Compared with the prior fiscal year, the new forecast implies a 4.6% rise in operating revenue, a 14.0% drop in operating profit and a 21.9% decline in net profit. The dividend forecast was unchanged.

The company said rising prices made consumers more frugal, while a pullback from strong year-earlier results and intensifying price competition reduced customer traffic and items purchased, leaving sales below plan. Higher purchase costs for goods such as packaging materials, partly due to the Middle East situation, and rising energy costs including electricity squeezed its gross margin and increased selling, general and administrative expenses. Belc expects these pressures to persist from the third quarter and plans to sharpen pricing, including flyer prices, to win back customers while reviewing its company-wide cost structure.

For the first half ended Aug. 31, operating revenue rose 2.8% to ¥216.9 billion, while operating profit fell 22.2% to ¥6.91 billion and net profit dropped 25.4% to ¥4.58 billion. Parent-only existing-store sales were 99.6% of the year-earlier level, and the group operated 151 stores at end-August. The interim dividend was ¥66 per share, with a full-year forecast of ¥132.

Belc plans to file its semiannual securities report on Oct. 13, 2026, and to start paying the interim dividend on Nov. 2, 2026.
