Terumo Corporation (4543) said on Oct. 8 it agreed to terminate a supply contract with major customer CSL Plasma, expects losses of about $610 million (about ¥97.5 billion), and cut its consolidated net profit forecast for the year ending March 2027 by 37.9% to ¥120.0 billion from ¥193.1 billion.
Terumo's wholly owned subsidiary Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies (Terumo BCT) began working with CSL Plasma in plasma collection in 2021, supplying plasma collection systems to the plasma collection centers CSL Plasma operates in the United States. The two companies agreed to terminate the existing supply contract after the end of a transition period they have agreed on, and will proceed under an agreed transition plan.
After reviewing the future earnings plan for the Terumo BCT-related business, Terumo expects a total financial impact of about $610 million (about ¥97.5 billion). Of that, about $450 million (about ¥72.0 billion) is a non-cash impairment loss on manufacturing facilities, machinery, product technology and other related assets at its U.S. production base. The remaining roughly $160 million (about ¥25.5 billion) covers business losses during the transition period and costs related to the contract termination and business restructuring. The company said the figures are preliminary estimates and may change depending on contract negotiations, transition terms and asset valuations.
Revised consolidated forecast for the year ending March 31, 2027 (previous forecast released Aug. 7, 2026):
| Item | Previous | Revised | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | ¥1,239.0 billion | ¥1,229.5 billion | -0.8% |
| Adjusted operating profit | ¥274.5 billion | ¥274.5 billion | - |
| Operating profit | ¥257.5 billion | ¥160.0 billion | -37.9% |
| Net profit attributable to owners of the parent | ¥193.1 billion | ¥120.0 billion | -37.9% |
| Basic EPS | ¥130.91 | ¥81.35 | - |
The adjusted operating profit forecast was left unchanged. Terumo said lower future amortization costs resulting from the impairment are expected to lift profit by about ¥2.0 billion, while its acquisition of Arsenal Medical, announced Sept. 30, 2026, is expected to add about ¥2.0 billion in R&D and other expenses; both are reflected in the forecast. For the year ended March 2026, revenue was ¥1,131.9 billion, operating profit ¥176.3 billion and net profit ¥135.9 billion.
