Tokyo-based cram school operator Waseda Academy Co., Ltd. (4718) on Oct. 26 raised its consolidated net profit forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2027 to ¥3.08 billion from ¥2.752 billion and lifted its annual dividend forecast to ¥85 per share from ¥75.

FY net profit forecast¥3.08 billion
FY operating profit forecast¥4.77 billion
Annual dividend forecast¥85
Merger effective dateApril 1, 2027

The company also raised its forecasts for the first half (April-September 2026). Revised consolidated forecasts (¥ million):

ItemH1 priorH1 newFY priorFY new
Net sales19,77520,06640,52040,900
Operating profit1,8672,5384,2394,770
Ordinary profit1,8872,5344,2744,780

The company said first-half enrollment exceeded its plan and sign-ups for its summer camps and intensive summer courses, which contribute heavily to first-half revenue, were strong. Part of its advertising, digital transformation (DX) and capital spending was shifted to the second half, while higher enrollment per school improved efficiency and kept personnel costs below budget. For the full year, it reviewed its sales outlook based on current enrollment trends and revisited expenses from the third quarter onward. Full-year earnings per share are now forecast at ¥169.76, up from ¥148.79.

The year-end dividend forecast was raised by ¥10 to ¥55, while the interim dividend stays at ¥30, bringing the annual total to ¥85, up ¥30 from the previous year. The company targets a payout ratio of 50% or more under its medium-term management plan.

The board also approved an absorption-type merger of wholly owned subsidiary Noda Gakuen Co., Ltd., which runs a university entrance prep school specializing in medical, dental and pharmaceutical programs. As a simplified and short-form merger, it requires no shareholder meetings, and no new shares or cash will be delivered. The company said the impact on consolidated results will be minor.

Next steps: the merger is scheduled to take effect on April 1, 2027.
