Japanese restaurant operator Karula Co., Ltd. (2789) on Oct. 5 cut its full-year net profit forecast by 57.1% to ¥66 million from ¥154 million, reflecting a special loss booked in the first quarter for directors' retirement benefits, among other factors.
For the first half of the fiscal year ending February 2027 (March 1-Aug. 31, 2026), sales rose 1.4% year on year to ¥3.989 billion but fell short of the ¥4.005 billion forecast announced on April 6, which the company attributed partly to unseasonable weather. Operating profit fell 19.8% to ¥211 million, 12.0% below forecast, and ordinary profit fell 17.8% to ¥215 million, as rising labor and raw material costs at its restaurants weighed on earnings.
Net profit attributable to owners of the parent dropped 65.8% to ¥83 million, 49.7% below the ¥166 million forecast. Earnings per share were ¥14.55, compared with ¥42.56 a year earlier.
For the full year, Karula kept its forecasts for sales of ¥7.7 billion and operating and ordinary profit of ¥289 million each. Forecast EPS was cut to ¥11.52 from ¥26.85. Net profit in the previous fiscal year was ¥239 million.
The company said it introduced mobile ordering at all outlets of Marumatsu, its main restaurant brand. Total assets stood at ¥5.486 billion at the end of August, with an equity ratio of 40.9%. Its year-end dividend forecast of ¥5 per share was unchanged.
Karula plans to file its semiannual securities report on Oct. 13, 2026.
