The company said sales in its information and communications equipment manufacturing and sales business fell short mainly because revenue recognition for some optical transmission equipment projects slipped to the second half or later. On the profit side, in addition to lower sales, soaring raw material prices, mainly for communications equipment for second-generation smart meters, eroded margins. Its network construction and maintenance business was broadly on plan.

Oi Electric kept its full-year consolidated forecast unchanged, citing expected progress in efforts to improve the profitability of communications equipment for second-generation smart meters and the expectation that optical transmission equipment sales delayed from the first half will be booked in the second half. It said it will disclose promptly if a revision becomes necessary.
