Warabeya Nichiyo Holdings (2918) on Oct. 7 cut its net profit forecast for the fiscal year ending February 2027 by 27.1% to ¥3.5 billion from ¥4.8 billion, citing higher packaging and energy costs and an expected extraordinary loss tied to a new U.S. plant.

Revised FY net profit¥3.5 billion (prev. ¥4.8 billion)
Revised FY operating profit¥6.0 billion (prev. ¥7.7 billion)
H1 net profit¥2.638 billion (down 34.1%)
FY dividend forecast¥120 per share (unchanged)

The revision replaces forecasts issued on April 8, 2026, for the year ending Feb. 28, 2027. Operating profit is now projected at ¥6.0 billion, down 22.1%, and ordinary profit at ¥6.05 billion versus ¥7.65 billion. Projected earnings per share fell to ¥201.34 from ¥277.20.

ItemPreviousRevisedPrior-year actual
Sales¥241.0 billion¥238.0 billion¥233.833 billion
Operating profit¥7.7 billion¥6.0 billion¥7.441 billion
Net profit¥4.8 billion¥3.5 billion¥5.339 billion

Sales are expected to fall short mainly in the food ingredients business, the company said. In the domestic food business, packaging material prices and energy costs are expected to exceed initial assumptions due to the prolonged situation in the Middle East. Net profit will also be hit by an extraordinary loss related to the suspension of operations at a new plant in Columbus, Ohio, in the U.S. Midwest. The annual dividend forecast was kept at ¥120 per share.

For the first half ended Aug. 31, net profit attributable to owners of the parent fell 34.1% to ¥2.638 billion on sales up 1.0% at ¥120.853 billion. Operating profit dropped 25.0% to ¥3.969 billion. In the food business, operating profit fell 24.7% to ¥3.729 billion as higher raw material and labor costs and the suspension of the Sapporo plant outweighed improvement at the Isesaki plant.

Next steps: The company plans to file its semiannual report on Oct. 8, 2026, and hold a briefing for institutional investors and analysts the same day. Payment of the ¥60 interim dividend is scheduled to begin Nov. 13, 2026.
