Muromachi Chemical (4885) on Oct. 15 raised its net profit forecast for the first half of the fiscal year ending May 2027 by 77.8% to ¥160 million from ¥90 million, and lifted its operating profit forecast to ¥250 million from ¥150 million, while leaving its full-year guidance unchanged.

H1 net profit forecast¥160 million (from ¥90 million)
H1 operating profit forecast¥250 million (from ¥150 million)
Q1 net profit¥142 million (+147.5%)
Full-year net profit forecast¥350 million (unchanged)

The company, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's Standard Market, said sales of imported active pharmaceutical ingredients, particularly for anti-epileptic and anti-herpes virus drugs, exceeded its initial assumptions. In its chemicals business, part of the sales of its mainstay ion exchange resins was brought forward, while sales of high-value-added products grew on an active semiconductor-related market and the company booked sales from temporary demand. The company said the upward revision includes the effects of pulled-forward sales and one-time demand.

Separately, first-quarter results for June 1-Aug. 31, 2026, showed net sales up 4.1% to ¥1.86 billion, operating profit up 144.8% to ¥182 million and net profit up 147.5% to ¥142 million. Following its exit from the health food business, the company now reports two segments; pharmaceutical sales rose 21.7% and chemical sales rose 30.8%. The annual dividend forecast was kept at ¥26 per share.

Next steps: The first half ends Nov. 30, 2026. The company plans to open a chemical development center in July 2027, with renovation work on the building scheduled to start within the year.
