Sumitomo Pharma Co., Ltd. (4506) raised its net profit forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2027 by 22.1% to ¥94.0 billion and said it would resume dividends with a year-end payout of ¥15 per share.

FY net profit forecast¥94.0 billion (previously ¥77.0 billion)
FY revenue forecast¥565.0 billion (previously ¥540.0 billion)
Year-end dividend¥15 (vs. ¥0 a year earlier)
H1 net profit¥38.238 billion

For the April-September first half, revenue rose 17.3% from a year earlier to ¥266.5 billion, while core operating profit fell 56.2% to ¥42.1 billion and net profit attributable to owners of the parent fell 61.3% to ¥38.2 billion, or ¥86.48 per share.

The first-half results beat the company's July 31 forecast by ¥15.5 billion in revenue, ¥12.1 billion in core operating profit and ¥12.2 billion in net profit. The company cited strong U.S. sales of overactive bladder drug Gemtesa and a weaker-than-assumed yen, while SG&A and R&D expenses excluding currency effects ran slightly below plan.

The company revised its May 13 full-year guidance and changed its average exchange rate assumption to 157.0 yen per dollar from 155.0 yen:

Operating profit¥90.0 billion¥104.0 billion15.6%
Net profit¥77.0 billion¥94.0 billion22.1%

Revised earnings per share stand at ¥211.07. The company expects U.S. sales, led by Gemtesa, to exceed plan, while also projecting higher sales-related expenses. Against the prior-year results, the new forecast implies revenue growth of 24.6% and a 12.0% decline in net profit.

Sumitomo Pharma had left its dividend forecast undetermined, prioritizing financial soundness and growth investment. Citing first-half progress and its outlook, it set a year-end dividend of ¥15 per share, with no interim dividend, after paying nothing for the fiscal year ended March 2026. Its equity ratio stood at 50.7% at the end of September, up from 36.4% at the end of March.

The company plans to file its semi-annual securities report on Nov. 2, 2026.
