For the April-September first half, net sales rose 12.6% from a year earlier to ¥73,768 million, operating profit climbed 59.2% to ¥7,358 million and net profit attributable to owners of the parent increased 56.9% to ¥5,175 million. Operating profit and net profit came in 37.5% and 54.5% above the first-half forecasts the company issued on April 24.

The company said soaring raw material prices amid heightened tensions in the Middle East led it to revise selling prices, while shipment adjustments aimed at preventing product shortages caused by raw material scarcity allowed it to supply most products stably, lifting sales above its expectations.

The full-year sales forecast was left unchanged at ¥150.0 billion, while profit forecasts were revised as follows:

Operating profit¥11.5 billion¥14.0 billion
Ordinary profit¥11.9 billion¥14.7 billion

Konishi said uncertainty remains over conditions going forward. It kept its year-end dividend forecast at ¥19 per share, for an annual total of ¥38.

Under the buyback, Konishi will place an order at 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 29 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's ToSTNeT-3 off-auction system at the Oct. 28 closing price of ¥1,475. The cap is 900,000 shares, or 1.5% of shares outstanding excluding treasury stock, worth up to ¥1,327.5 million. The company cited enhancing shareholder returns and improving capital efficiency.

Konishi will announce the buyback results after the 8:45 a.m. trading session on Oct. 29. It plans to file its semiannual securities report on Nov. 11, start paying the interim dividend on Dec. 10 and hold a results briefing on Nov. 26.
