The company said it expects higher shipments of semiconductor process materials in its ICT & Mobility Solutions segment. In Essential & Green Materials, it had factored in risks from an uncertain business environment in its previous forecast, but business activities have progressed smoothly. U.S. sales at Sumitomo Pharma have been strong, led by overactive bladder treatment Gemtesa. The core operating profit forecast for Essential & Green Materials was raised to ¥75.0 billion from ¥20.0 billion.
The year-end dividend forecast was raised to ¥9 per share from ¥8. Together with the ¥8 interim dividend, the annual payout would total ¥17, compared with ¥13.50 in the previous fiscal year.
For the April-September first half, revenue rose 7.1% to ¥1.17 trillion, core operating profit increased 32.9% to ¥144.5 billion and net profit attributable to owners of the parent rose 108.8% to ¥82.9 billion. Core operating profit in Essential & Green Materials improved by ¥80.7 billion to ¥62.1 billion, as results at equity-method affiliate Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Company improved amid the Middle East situation. Sumitomo Pharma segment revenue rose ¥39.4 billion to ¥265.5 billion, but core operating profit fell ¥53.8 billion to ¥43.6 billion as gains from last fiscal year's partial sale of its Asian business dropped out and expenses increased.
Sumitomo Kagaku plans to file its semiannual report on Nov. 10, 2026, and to begin paying the interim dividend on Dec. 2, 2026.
