Sumitomo Corporation (8053) on Nov. 2 raised its forecast for net profit attributable to owners of the parent for the year ending March 2027 to ¥670.0 billion from ¥630.0 billion, and increased its annual dividend forecast to ¥44 per share from ¥40.

The upgrade follows first-half (April-September) net profit attributable to owners of the parent of ¥347.9 billion, up 15.5% from a year earlier, which the company said showed high progress against its original full-year target. It expects its businesses to remain firm in the second half.

First-half revenue rose 10.8% to ¥3.92 trillion, while profit before tax fell 7.4% to ¥345.0 billion. Gross profit increased by ¥61.6 billion, driven by improved rental operations and solid sales and service business in construction equipment, as well as strong precious metals trading. Gains on securities swung to a loss of ¥9.3 billion, including a loss on the sale of a Madagascar nickel business, while income tax turned to a gain of ¥15.7 billion on the tax effect of that sale.
