The company said rice prices kept falling beyond its previous assumptions. Prioritizing the avoidance of future inventory build-up, it sold in a timely manner while monitoring market conditions, booking large losses on sales as selling prices dropped sharply. As a result, its agricultural distribution segment is expected to fall well short of the previous forecast. Its core store sales, FDC and online sales, and rice retail businesses held firm but could not absorb the impact.

The company said it has sold almost all of its Reiwa 7 crop rice inventory, so it expects further price declines to have a limited impact on company-wide results through inventory valuation losses. It will monitor supply, demand and prices as distribution of new Reiwa 8 crop rice picks up from autumn.

The board also decided not to pay a year-end dividend for the Aug. 31, 2026 record date, versus a previous forecast of ¥40 per share, or ¥82 million in total, and ¥40 paid a year earlier. The company cited the expected net loss and lingering uncertainty over rice prices and supply-demand conditions, saying it is prioritizing financial soundness and retaining funds for medium- to long-term growth.
