SLD said customer numbers at existing stores fell short of expectations, some collaboration cafés drew fewer visitors than planned, the start of a store-operation contract was delayed and some stores closed unexpectedly. On the profit side, raw material prices kept rising and the cost ratio exceeded plan despite menu price revisions, while minimum wage increases pushed up hourly pay for part-time staff and lifted the personnel cost ratio.

The projected net loss also reflects a ¥3 million impairment loss on fixed assets at directly operated stores and a ¥43 million deferred income tax adjustment after the company reviewed the recoverability of deferred tax assets. SLD also expects to book additional impairment losses at some stores.

For the first half ended Aug. 31, net sales fell 7.5% from a year earlier to ¥1.721 billion and operating profit dropped 63.1% to ¥33 million. SLD posted a net loss of ¥15 million, versus a net profit of ¥82 million a year earlier. Its equity ratio was 46.9% at the end of August, down from 54.8% at the end of February 2026.

The company said it would strengthen earnings at existing stores and improve margins through cost control and appropriate staffing.
