Chiyoda Co., Ltd. (8185) on Oct. 9 cut its consolidated net profit forecast for the year ending February 2027 to ¥10 million from ¥1.1 billion, after booking ¥359 million in special losses including impairments in the first half.

FY net profit forecast¥10 million (from ¥1.1 billion)
FY operating profit forecast¥460 million (from ¥1.4 billion)
H1 net profit¥130 million
Special losses¥359 million

For the six months ended Aug. 31, consolidated sales fell 3.2% year on year to ¥40.51 billion, ¥2.29 billion below the previous forecast. Operating profit dropped 59.6% to ¥557 million, and net profit attributable to owners of the parent fell 85.9% to ¥130 million, against a forecast of ¥1.25 billion.

The company said sales of its Spat Shoes line reached 135.5% of the prior-year level, but promotions including a large sale marking its 90th anniversary failed to lift customer traffic to plan, prompting additional discounting. Existing-store customer numbers came in at 98.1% of the prior year against a plan of 100.0%, and spend per customer at 99.9% against 103.5%. Inventory built up as sales missed plan, and heavier markdowns cut the consolidated gross margin to 46.8%, 1.2 percentage points below the planned 48.0%. SG&A expenses came in ¥633 million under plan but did not offset the shortfall. Net profit was further hit by the special losses and a reversal of deferred tax assets.
