Oi Denki (6822) reported a first-half net loss attributable to owners of the parent of ¥247 million, missing the ¥110 million profit it forecast on Sept. 29, and left its full-year forecast unchanged.

H1 net profit attributable to owners of parent¥247 million loss
H1 operating profit¥594 million loss
H1 sales¥13.9 billion (up 17.5%)
FY net profit forecast (unchanged)¥2.55 billion

Sales for the April-September period rose 17.5% year on year to ¥13.9 billion but fell short of the forecast. The operating loss came to ¥594 million, compared with a profit of ¥226 million a year earlier.

The company said sales missed the forecast mainly because revenue recognition for some optical transmission equipment projects in its information and communications equipment manufacturing and sales business shifted to the second half or later. Lower sales reduced profit by about ¥233 million, while higher raw material costs and increased inventory disposal expenses weighed by about ¥248 million. Non-operating income including foreign exchange gains improved ordinary profit by about ¥53 million but did not offset the decline. The bottom line included a ¥594 million gain on the sale of investment securities and a ¥106 million impairment loss.

Sales in the information and communications equipment segment rose 21.3% to ¥8.78 billion, led by communication devices for second-generation smart meters, but the segment posted a loss of ¥723 million versus a profit of ¥389 million a year earlier.

The company kept the full-year forecast it announced on July 29: sales of ¥40.2 billion, operating profit of ¥1.6 billion and net profit of ¥2.55 billion. It expects the delayed optical transmission projects to be booked in the second half and anticipates progress in improving the profitability of its second-generation smart meter devices. The annual dividend forecast of ¥80 per share was unchanged.

Next steps: The company plans to file its semiannual report on Nov. 12, 2026, and to begin paying the interim dividend on Dec. 7, 2026.
