Retailer Izumi Co., Ltd. (8273) said first-half net profit attributable to owners of the parent rose 4.2% to ¥8.4 billion for the six months to Aug. 31, 2026, kept its full-year forecast unchanged, and said three of its Kyushu supermarket subsidiaries will merge on March 1, 2027.

Earnings per share came to ¥40.10, versus ¥38.02 a year earlier, adjusted for a 3-for-1 stock split effective March 1, 2026.

Izumi left its forecasts for the fiscal year ending Feb. 28, 2027 unchanged at operating revenue of ¥587.1 billion, operating profit of ¥29.0 billion and net profit attributable to owners of the parent of ¥17.4 billion, or ¥82.82 per share. It set an interim dividend of ¥15 per share and forecasts ¥30 for the full year, equivalent to ¥90 before the split.

The company said the Kumamoto earthquake in July damaged some stores, leading to temporary closures or shorter hours. As of the end of the period, two Izumi stores, Youme Town Yatsushiro and Youme Mart Matsubase, and four stores of subsidiary Youme Mart Kumamoto had yet to reopen.

Under the merger, Youme Mart Kumamoto will absorb Youme Mart Kitakyushu and Sunlife and change its name to Youme Mart Kyushu. The move aims to strengthen sales support, streamline back-office functions and reinforce group governance. Because all three are wholly owned subsidiaries, no new shares or cash will be allotted, and Izumi said the impact on consolidated results will be minor. In the year ended February 2026, the three units posted sales of ¥108.7 billion, ¥25.4 billion and ¥4.9 billion, respectively.

Next steps: the interim dividend is scheduled to be paid from Nov. 19, 2026. The subsidiaries plan to hold shareholder meetings in December 2026, and the merger is scheduled to take effect on March 1, 2027.
