Chuo Hatsujo (5992) said on Oct. 28 it will buy back up to 4.5 million shares, or 17.8% of its outstanding shares excluding treasury stock, for up to ¥15.0 billion, and cut its full-year operating profit forecast by 45.5% to ¥1.8 billion from ¥3.3 billion.

Buyback cap (amount)¥15.0 billion
Buyback cap (shares)4.5 million shares (17.8% of shares outstanding)
FY operating profit forecast¥1.8 billion (from ¥3.3 billion)
Buyback periodOct. 29, 2026-Oct. 28, 2027

The repurchase will be conducted through the Tokyo Stock Exchange's off-auction ToSTNeT-3 system and on-market purchases. Both the share count and the amount are upper limits. The company said the move is part of its Medium- to Long-Term Management Plan 2030, announced on July 30, 2025, which calls for share buybacks totaling ¥15.0 billion plus alpha over six years and targets a return on equity of 8%.

For the year ending March 2027, the company kept its revenue forecast at ¥110.0 billion. It lowered its ordinary profit forecast by 38.7% to ¥2.3 billion from ¥3.75 billion, and its net profit attributable to owners of the parent by 27.1% to ¥1.75 billion from ¥2.4 billion. The previous forecast was issued on April 27, 2026.

The company cited three factors: production cuts in China that exceeded its assumptions and outweighed higher domestic sales; further front-loaded spending on fixed costs to strengthen its operating base; and North American tariffs and delays in recovering inflation costs. It described the second as a deliberate investment for future growth and said the third is expected to be recovered over time.

In the April-September first half, revenue rose 4.1% to ¥56.25 billion, a record for the period. Operating profit fell 74.0% to ¥388 million, and net profit attributable to owners of the parent fell 42.0% to ¥776 million. The interim dividend was ¥45 per share, and the full-year dividend forecast of ¥90 was unchanged.

Next steps: The buyback period runs from Oct. 29, 2026 to Oct. 28, 2027. The company plans to file its semiannual report on Nov. 11, 2026, and to begin paying the interim dividend on Nov. 26, 2026.
